ABOUT US
Located in Coronado, California, Bay Books is considered San Diego County's largest general independent bookstore. Bay Books has served the Coronado and extended San Diego communities for sixteen years.
Bay Books is the
vision of and testimonial to it's founder, Shirley Muller. Remarkably, Shirley was able to expand the bookstore's retail space and inventory when many other bookstores were folding under the weight of online book selling. Shirley passed away in the fall of 2002 after a year long battle with cancer - we feel her absence everyday. Her son, Henry Muller, and her step-sister, Shirley Hanson, continue her role as owners.
Bay Books boasts of a large selection of Fiction, Children's, Travel, and Current Events titles. Our Military History and Military Fiction sections are among our most sought after, due largely to the support we enjoy from our friends at the Naval Air Station and Naval Amphibious Base. Bay Books also presents a large Business section catering to business travelers and investors. We present a comprehensive selection of cookbooks as well as titles devoted to gardening and interior decorating. We always offer beautiful gift and art books, greeting cards, stationary, and journals. And, of course, we offer one of the largest selections of magazines and newspapers (domestic and international) in Southern California.
Bay Books is host to numerous author related events throughout the year. We are eager to introduce and present authors, both new and established, to the communities we serve. Recent events have included authors such as Col. Oliver North, Adm. James Stockdale, Susan Vreeland, Steven Coonts, Brad Thor, Gen. Nguyen Ky, Jim Davis (Garfield cartoonist), Wayne LaPierre, and Arianna Huffington.
Beyond Shirley, we owe our store to our wonderful customers, many of whom are our friends, regulars we see on a daily basis. And, of course, our staff is indispensable - they give our store all the excellence it enjoys. Many thanks are extended to Barbara Chambers, our long-time manager, Joe Contreras in bookkeeping and administration, and David Joslin, our book-buyer par excellence. Event planning is overseen by Erna Lockhart. Susan Reisinger is our receiver. An acknowledgement full of gratitude is owed to all: Connie, Sue, Ann, Anna, Jennifer, Morgan, Sarah, and Danny as well.
