Natchez Burning by Greg Iles

"Penn Cage is the mayor of Natchez, Mississippi, and life is pretty good for him, his fiancee, and his daughter, until a call from the district attorney sends his world reeling.  His father, Tom, a respected and beloved family physician, is accused of murdering Viola Turner, who worked as his nurse during the turbulent 1060s. As Penn tries to save his father, he is forced to confront the brutal and violent past of his hometown during the fight for civil rights. With strong characters and a taut story line that spans 40 years, Iles delivers a blockbuster that will leave readers hungry for the next two installments in what will surely be an epic trilogy."

Stella Bain by Avita Shrene

"I think this is Shrene’s best novel so far.  Every element from the setting to the characters is expertly tuned to create a compelling story of a woman w/ amnesia in WWI in France. Stella’s journey to find answers about herself illuminate many issues that touch the heart: Family, women, war and love."

Winner of 2013 Rea Award for short fiction - More about the Author Here

"I like southern writers. I am so happy to discover Elizabeth Spencer.  This collection of short fiction is truly remarkable, especially when you consider her age.  Each story is unique and so much so you will want to re real them.  This book takes my breath away. I implore you to try the beautiful writing in the anthology of 9 stories. 5 STARS!"

Killing Jesus by Bill O'Reilly & Martin Duggard

"What was it like to live in the world of Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Herod, and how did the politics (and decadence) of the era impact the Jewish leaders when Jesus the Nazarene walked the earth?

The authors draw on the historical writings of Josephus, Roman historical documents and the Bible to put the times in context and suggest the daily challenges faced by all residents of the era.

The authors give the reader a vivid sense of the corrupt politics, in the fighting and scheming that went on between the Roman government, the powerful Roman generals, their puppet Roman leaders and the Jewish people, who had their own laws.  One cannot help but compare it to the current events in Syria and the continued struggles in the Middle East.

A very enjoyable and enlightening read!"

"Without a doubt one of the best works of fiction I have had the pleasure of reading.  A young boys life is turned upside down after a family tragedy in New York City.  The author's stunningly descriptive language makes every line a joy to read as she fleshes out the characters in a way that you feel you know them intimately. 5 STARS!!"

David & Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants by Malcolm Gladwell

"A powerful commentary on those who rise above adversity, achieving counterintuitive results, and sometimes using unconventional strategies.

Gladwell asks the question of wether going to a top school, with a high bar for acceptance, is a rational goal-is it better to be a little fish in a big pond, or a big fish in a little pond?

He also identifies common threads in the backgrounds of those whose achievements he studied-what is common among British Prime ministers, leaders of causes, those who do not fold under pressure?

A thought-provoking and enjoyable read!!"

The Duck Commander Family by Willie & Korie Robertson

How Faith, Family and Ducks built a Dynasty!
"What has propelled this unlikely family to the top of TV's ratings, as well as two best-selling books?  The answer will surprise you, especially looking at the cover...  The book is a very insightful read about growing up poor in Louisiana, and how following God and a dream resulted in profit and stardom.  Willie and Korie grew up on opposite sides of the river and track, but the unlikely couple married at 18 and moved on together from there.  It is an easy, fun read, and may get you hooked on watching their TV series, if you don't already--a novel premise, a functional family!!"
