'Napoleon: A Life' a new biography by Andrew Roberts

"The historian Andrew Robert gives us a terrific new biography of Napoleon Bonaparte. He documents the rise and fall of a man who rivals Julius Caesar as a gifted military tactician, politician and statesman. Napoleon is the ultimate self-made man, actually more Italian than French who rose to the apex of French political life and then lost it all by miscalculation and a love of war.

Roberts describes how Napoleon's ambition finally deserted him upon the oceans of the world, the snows of Russia and the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula.  the author also explains how England, his most constant foe and mistress of the seas checked Napoleon by constructing and financing no less than seven consecutive coalitions of European states. He goes ton to explain how almost all Europe came together to bring an end to the Napoleonic Empire, only stitched together by bayonets.

Today Napoleon's renown lives on and in his new book Andrew Roberts has found a most compelling way to tell the story of that extraordinary life to modern readers."

"It is possible only Rick Bragg could do true justice to The Killer, a man whose music an indelible aspect of the American cultural scene. Bragg's knowledge of the South enables him to provide the background of a region of incredible contradictions that spawned Jerry Lee Lewis and helped contribute to a musical revolution, which eventually swept the world. Lewis' own improbable life complements the story of a cultural phenomenon that helped to change society and is still relevant today."

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly

"Connelly fan (I am), Detective Bosch fan (I am), then you have got to read this book! Bosch is nearing his retirement but at the same time being assigned to cold cases and newbie, Detective Soto. Ms. Soto has a lot to add to this narrative because she was a lone survivor of a fire that left several children dead. The cop-speak, the LA setting and a real feel for what foes on in a  cold-case investigation make this one on Connelley's best...AND, there is a series based on Bosch!  I can't wait to see what Hollywood does with this wonderful character."
